In Our Community - at the Zoo!

WKAR celebrated International Migratory Bird Day at Potter Park Zoo on Saturday, June 2, as part of the annual Be a Tourist in Your Own Town event.

Families from throughout mid-Michigan came to enjoy special bird-related activities, including time with birds of prey, opportunities to observe baby bird hatching and even learning some useful information about building and cleaning bird feeders.

WKAR discovered that many young guests were fans of "Dinosaur Train," often singing the series theme song to us. They were delighted to receive their own copies of the "Nature Trackers Guide" from the series.

Connie Montague of DeWitt told WKAR TV Station Manager Susi Elkin, "Oh, Granny does PBS." There with her grandchildren, Connie added, "He likes 'Wild Kratts.' So do I. She likes 'Peeps.' I like 'Peeps.'"

WKAR's activities at the zoo were underwritten in part by Michigan State University Federal Credit Union.
