Michigan is seeing progress in the fight against COVID-19.
But the pandemic continues to exact a toll.
Michigan added another 5,035 coronavirus positive cases on Monday, bringing the state’s total number of positive coronavirus cases to 849,420 since the pandemic began a year ago. That includes 17,771 Michiganders who’ve died.
Members of the Congressional Black Caucus launched a campaign this week to get more African-Americans vaccinated against COVID.
Rep. Brenda Lawrence (D-Southfield) says “misinformation” is contributing to “vaccine hesitancy.”
“We know that our community...in the black community...in the brown community and in minority community...we’re falling behind in the vaccines,” says Lawrence. “We have to get those numbers up.”
As of Monday, 50% of Michigan’s population has received at least one dose of a COVID vaccine, with 38% being fully vaccinated.
The goal is to get 70% of the state’s population vaccinated.
