The Ingham County Health Department is watching for a potential uptick in coronavirus cases following the Independence Day weekend.
It’s hard to tell just how rigorously Michiganders practiced social distancing during the nation’s birthday.
Few cases of COVID-19 surfaced in Ingham County after Memorial Day; still, health officials would rather not see fate tempted twice.
Health Officer Linda Vail says though some coronavirus hotspots have been contained, there’s still an undercurrent of community transmission.
“The large numbers that we’re seeing now are mostly associated with these outbreaks,” Vail says. “But that tells us that it’s still in our community in any number of places, and you just never know.”
Ingham County is conducting contact tracing at a Lansing veterinary clinic where three people tested positive last week.
Vail says people who visited the Riverfront Animal Hospital between June 23 and July 2 should watch for symptoms.
