High winds knocked out power to at least 60,000 Michigan homes and businesses as the effects of the Eastern Seaboard's severe weather moved through the state.
DTE Energy Co. says roughly 51,000 of its 2.1 million customers were without power early Tuesday. CMS Energy Corp.'s Consumers Energy unit reported about 9,000 of its 1.8 million Michigan customers were out Tuesday morning.
The weather prompted warnings for the Great Lakes. The National Weather Service says wave heights of up to 23 feet were reported on southern Lake Huron, with waves from 24 feet to 35 feet forecast. High wind warnings were in effect along parts of Michigan's eastern Lower Peninsula.
The S.S. Badger has canceled a day of service amid high winds and large waves on Lake Michigan. The car ferry that runs between Manitowoc, Wis., and Ludington, Michigan won't sail today. Wind gusts of more than 40 mph have been reported on the lake.
High wind warnings were in effect in West Michigan.
