Developers fill housing need, while MSU builds neighborhoods on campus

The fall semester here at Michigan State University begins on Wednesday.  Hundreds of new and returning students are completing their moves into residence halls and transitional housing units.  Not far from the campus, a new housing development is in the works.

A developer is converting a shuttered hotel and conference center into a unique living environment geared towards the college student market.  The project will not be finished for another year, but already, the owners are starting to sign leases with tenants.  Current State’s Kevin Lavery reports on what’s simply called “The House.”

Also, for several years now, MSU has been implementing a “neighborhood” approach to help students who live on campus to succeed. This neighborhood concept brings together key services in five centralized locations across the campus. Vennie Gore, MSU’s Vice President of Auxiliary Services discusses the neighborhood approach.
