House Committee passes drug company immunity

By Laura Weber, Michigan Public Radio Network

Lansing, MI – LANSING, MI (MPRN) - The House Judiciary Committee passed a package of bills Wednesday to repeal Michigan's drug company immunity law.

Representatives from drug manufacturer Pfizer testified before the committee that if the law is rescinded, drug makers and jobs would leave Michigan.

But Democrats on the committee countered that Michigan is the only state that makes these concessions for manufactures. Republican committee members say they fear other bioscience companies won't establish roots in the state if the law is repealed.
