Medical marijuana takes effect Saturday

By Laura Weber, Michigan Public Radio Network

East Lansing, MI – East Lansing, MI (MPRN) - Michigan's medical marijuana law takes effect Saturday.

Patients can grow and smoke marijuana for medical purposes under the law passed by voters last November.

Jon Dunbar is a patient from Kalamazoo who suffers from a degenerative spinal injury that affects his ability to walk.

He says he started taking strong pain pills, but the side affects were too heavy.

So he began talking to doctors in other states with legalized medical marijuana.

A mass registration of patients applying for medical marijuana ID cards is scheduled for Monday in Lansing.
