SPARTAN LINEBACKER JONES PRESEASON DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE YEAR

East Lansing, MI – Michigan State Junior Linebacker Greg Jones has been named BIG TEN Preseason Defensive Player of the Year by the media during the annual BIG TEN meetings.

The 6'1, 228-pound Jones led the Spartans for the second straight year in tackles with 127 becoming the first Spartan to record a 100 tackle season since Eric Smith in 2002. Jones ranked third in the BIG TEN in tackles and 17th nationally last season. Greg has also been put on the watch list for the upcoming season for three national awards; BUTKUS AWARD (Best linebacker) LOMBARDI AWARD (linemen of the year) and the LOTT TROPHY (defensive player of the year)

In other news Michigan State has been picked to finish third in the Preseason polls behind Ohio State and Penn State by the media.
