Detroit Schools financial manager sues Board of Ed

By AP

DETROIT – The Detroit Public Schools' emergency financial manager has filed a lawsuit to void the appointment of a district general superintendent.

The Detroit News reports that Robert Bobb filed the suit against the Board of Education Wednesday in Wayne County Circuit Court. Michigan Attorney General Mike Cox announced later Wednesday that his office will represent Bobb.

Bobb's suit claims the board violated his authority by promoting acting superintendent Teresa Gueyser. Board members have said Gueyser's job title change did not require Bobb's approval.

The board sued Bobb last month, complaining he has not consulted with it on his plans to overhaul the district.

Gov. Jennifer Granholm appointed Bobb in March to manage the district's finances. He also has pushed through plans to improve academics throughout the troubled public school system.
