Simon: new center would promote economic development in Lansing

Lansing, MI – Michigan State University President Lou Anna Simon says a proposed multi-use facility for the building that now houses the state library and historical center would benefit downtown Lansing.
MSU is proposing a new state museum called the Center for Innovation and Reinvention. President Lou Anna Simon says the facility would combine the Historical Center collections with exhibits from the MSU Museum and also serve as a new headquarters for the Impression 5 Science Center.
"The connection you could have with Impression Five, Innovation Centers, and a museum, you get some exciting concepts that would get repeat visitors," says Simon. "More than yellow school buses, but people who come back again and again and again, because there are special exhibits and a whole range of things and that gives vitality to downtown Lansing."
Governor Granholm's executive order closing the state department of History, Arts and Libraries goes into effect October first. A new state board will have the final say on a plan for a museum.
