School foundations rethinking their strategies

East Lansing, MI – K through 12 schools in Michigan took a big hit this year in state funding. In many districts, officials cut programs and laid off teachers. By most estimates, next year's budget cuts will be even deeper.
Almost every school district has a foundation, a group of volunteers who raise money for special projects. Now, faced with a bleak future for state funding, some foundations are rethinking their strategies for helping public schools.
