LANSING, MI – Republicans say they're skeptical that Governor Granholm can find a way to restore the Michigan Promise scholarship.

Granholm says she will find a way to restore funding for the Promise scholarship when she unveils her budget proposal next week.

Republican state Senate Majority Leader Mike Bishop says that's a nice thought, but it will have to involve a tax hike.

"Yeah I'd like to see that, and I'd like to know where her tax increase is and I hope that's she's forthcoming so that the public can see straight on what she's proposing."

Other than a few quibbles over Granholm's general statements about the budget, Bishop and other Republican lawmakers were mostly underwhelmed by the governor's final State of the State speech. However many Democrats, including House Speaker Andy Dillon, say the governor set the right tone.
