EAST LANSING, MI –

A special primary election is being held in East Lansing today for the Ingham County Board of Commissioners.

As WKAR's Scott Pohl reports, the winner is virtually certain to win the general election in May.

AUDIO: Today's election is to complete the term of former county commissioner Marc Thomas, who resigned in August. Shelby Bupp was appointed to the seat, but withdrew from the election.

Four candidates are running, all Democrats. No one filed to run as a Republican or from any other party. That means today's winner will run unopposed in the general election on May 4th, unless there are write-in candidates.

The choices today include Robert Alexander, who runs a political consulting firm; attorney and CPA Lee Reimann; attorney Penelope Tsernoglou of Practical Political Consulting; and independent insurance agent Peter Dewan.

The county board of commissioners 8th district covers the western half of East Lansing.

Polls are open from 7 a-m until 8 p-m.
