Prominent Lansing attorney Stuart Dunnings Jr. dies

LANSING, MI –

Stuart Dunnings Jr., founder of Lansing's first black-owned law firm and father of Ingham County Prosecutor Stuart Dunnings III, has died.

The elder Dunnings was admitted to the bar in 1950. He opened his Lansing law office as a sole practitioner that same year.

Dunnings led the Lansing branch of the NAACP from 1952 to 1958.

He won numerous awards over his lengthy career, including induction into the National Bar Association Hall of Fame.

Stuart Dunnings Jr. was 85.
