GOP gov debate will be 1st since attack ads began

By AP

LANSING, MI –

The first Republican debate to be held since some candidates began sniping at each other in attack ads will feature U.S. Rep. Pete Hoekstra, Ann Arbor businessman Rick
Snyder and state Sen. Tom George.

Attorney General Mike Cox and Oakland County Sheriff Mike Bouchard have scheduling conflicts and aren't attending the Monday night debate at the WGVU TV studios in Grand Rapids.

The debate will air Tuesday night on public broadcasting stations statewide. It also will be available on the websites of the Center for Michigan and MiVote.org.

It's one in the Great Debate 2010 series sponsored by business, labor and advocacy groups to promote a broader discussion of issues about Michigan's future.

The groups will host a Democratic gubernatorial debate July 15 in Detroit.
