U.S. Commerce Secretary Gary Locke and other officials are holding an innovation forum at the University of Michigan.

Government and academic leaders plan to gather Tuesday at the university's Ann Arbor campus to talk about the investment money needed to move ideas from the laboratory to the marketplace.

Also planned for discussion is a university's role in the development of federally funded research.

The forum is the third of four announced by the Commerce Department. Previous events were held at University of Massachusetts and University of Southern California.
