MSU zeroes in on state budget request

By Scott Pohl, WKAR

EAST LANSING, MI –
Michigan State University has begun the process of seeking state appropriations for the coming fiscal year.

AUDIO:
The Board of Trustees on Friday adopted the parameters for the budget request for the university's general fund, the Agricultural Experiment Station and MSU Extension.

President Lou Anna Simon says she would be "extraordinarily pleased" if MSU would get the same amount of state funding from this year to next.

"I mean, I think we as a university, with the lowest appropriation and tuition dollars to spend per student in the Big Ten, producing the results we are, that we have to get some high marks there."

President Simon says she recognizes that MSU might have to endure cuts in state funding. She feels higher education is important to Governor-elect Rick Snyder, and hopes that is reflected in next year's budget.
