EAST LANSING, MI –

A Volkswagen ad featuring a kid dressed up like Darth Vader was named the best ad in the Super Bowl by advertising experts at Michigan State University.

WKAR's Scott Pohl reports.

AUDIO:

OK, so the Darth Vader costume didn't really give the kid the power to start the car...his dad hit a button on the remote control. But the Volkswagen ad for the Passat hit the right buttons with MSU advertising faculty like Robert Kolt.

"It really didn't focus on the car," Kolt says. "It told a story, and it told a story of families, and really tapped some emotion."

While Volkswagen took the top two spots, MSU profs thought Chrysler's ad featuring rapper Eminem also tapped some emotion, at least with viewers in Michigan who are proud of the states automotive history.

"This is the Motor City. And this is what we do."
