EAST LANSING, MI – Governor Rick Snyder will announce details of his first budget recommendations this week.

Michigan State University president Lou Anna Simon will be watching closely.

MSU's two-year budget number from a year ago projected a state funding reduction of 13%.

President Simon says MSU made contingency plans based on that projection.

"Certainty is better than uncertainty, and if this is a budget cut that means that next year, there will not be another budget cut, that's welcome news," Simon says. "But at the same time, we have to worry about the quality of the institution and how we rally again to the challenges of whatever number is there."

Simon says that in light of expected state budget cuts, she hopes MSU will not face constraints on how to manage the budget numbers.
