EAST LANSING, MI –
Michigan State University is raising room and board rates by almost five-percent for next year.
WKAR's Scott Pohl reports.
AUDIO:
MSU Trustees today approved an increase of 4.95% for the standard double room and board plan. The cost will be $8,154 dollars, up $384 from this year.
MSU president Lou Anna Simon says the percentage increase is somewhat deceptive.
"If you look at the $36.40 per day to have a roof over your head, access to internet, and food," Simon says, "that we're providing a very good value."
At that rate, room and board at MSU will rank eighth in the Big Ten Conference.
Rates to live in MSU's Spartan Village Apartments will not change next year. Rates at the University Village Apartments will go up by $7.00 a month.
