Where To Celebrate Pride Across Michigan

June 28 marks the 50th anniversary of the Stonewall Riots, which took place in New York City. To celebrate the lesbian/gay/bisexual/transgender/queer movement and the community, festivals and parades will take place throughout the month. See what Michigan has in store for the remainder of June.

Kalamazoo Pride will host an afternoon event at the Arcadia Creek Festival Place in downtown Kalamazoo on June 8. The event will begin at 2 p.m. to 11 p.m. It will include singers from America’s Got Talent and American Idol. Cost: $10.

Motor City Prideis one of the largest pride events in the state. It will begin at 12:30 p.m. on June 8 and noon on June 9 in Hart Plaza in Detroit. It will include a candlelight vigil to honor the memory of those killed in the Pulse Nightclub shooting. Free.

Motor City Pride After Party is an all-ages event that will close out the first night of Motor City Pride. It will be hosted at El Club in Detroit and will feature celebrity performances by Caleb Joel and Alexyn Wundrland.Cost: $5

Motorball is a LGBTQ+ dance event with the proceeds going to the non-profit organization World AIDS Day Detroit to help raise awareness for HIV and AIDS in Michigan. This marks the 25th year the party will take place. It will be hosted at St. Andrew’s Hall in Detroit. Nina West from season 11 of Ru Paul’s Drag Race will be attending the event. Cost: $25+.

LatinX LGBTQ organization participants in the 2018 Michigan Pride parade in Lansing

Lansing Pride will take place in the downtown area of the state capitol on June 15. The event draws in one of the largest crowds across Michigan. The parade will be followed by a rally on the steps of the capitol building. Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel will be in attendance as a speaker. It will begin on June 15 from noon to 10 p.m. Free.

Grand Rapids Pride takes places on June 15 from noon to 11 p.m. at Calder Plaza downtown. The event will feature popular singers such as Sissy Rocket and Mýa. All proceeds will go to helping fund the Grand Rapids Pride Center. Cost: $8.

Pride Block Party at Apartment Loungewill take place on June 16 in downtown Grand Rapids. Proceeds from the event will go help organizations that assist LGBTQ+ minors who have been displaced by their families. Free.

Up North Pridewill take place from June 17-23 in downtown Traverse City. The week-long event includes one of the largest pride marches in the state. Cost: Free.   

LGBTQ Older Adult Summitis an event that caters to older LGBTQ+ people. It is hosted at Wayne State University in the Education Building. The theme of the event will be a discussion on “building and sustaining connections.” Speakers for the event have not yet been announced. It will take place on June 22 from 9 to 4 p.m. Free.

The Grosse Pointe Pride Marchwill take place on June 9 from 9:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. It will include a march, festival and food trucks. The event is a family-friendly event. A portion of the proceeds from the event will be donated to the Ruth Ellis Center. Free.  

Great Lakes Bay PRIDE will take place at Wenonah Park, Bay City. It is a family-friendly event that brings in local artists, retailers, and food. The event coordinators are committed to fostering an inclusive atmosphere. It will take place on June 29 from noon to 5 p.m. Free.

Jackson will not be holding a pride parade and festival until August 24.
