Okemos Donuts Store Pays Tribute To MSU Football Player Killed in A Crash

Every year, the owner of the Dunkin Donuts store in Okemos buys Michigan State University Spartan shirts for his employees.  This year, he had a touching experience while purchasing the shirts.

Chris Hadad buys the MSU shirts each year so all 40 of his workers can show their MSU spirit on game days.

This season, he spotted shirts honoring Mike Sadler.  He MSU punter was killed in a car crash in July 2016.

Standing over the shirts was Sadler's mother.

But he didn't know it was her at first.

"I'm looking for about 40 shirts for our staff," said Hadad. "And her eyes welled up with tears. And she said 'we'd be so honored if you would'."

"We're happy to help share this story and see that this legacy continues," said Hadad.

Brooke Allen served as local producer and host for Morning Edition, from June 2016-March 2018.
