Spartan Stadium To Debut New South Endzone Project

Saturday will mark the start of the season for Michigan State football, and it will also symbolically cut the ribbon on the Spartan Stadium south endzone project.

Al Martin and WKAR's Current Sports took a tour of the new digs this week. The video piece can be accessed here.

Months of construction yielded a new facade for the south part of the stadium. New gates were also added, and the parking lot outside was repaved and redesigned.

Most notably inside the enclosure, 245 bathroom fixtures and five family restrooms were installed--available for tailgaters before the game and then ticket-holders closer kick-off.

The $13 million project that was undertaken in April is expected to reduce congestion on game days.

Additionally, four new concession stands will go through a test run throughout the upcoming season to prepare for a different, 2018 initiative.

An earlier project installed permanent lights in the stadium, to illuminate night games.

The Spartans will play Bowling Green to open the new season Saturday at noon.
