Michigan State University is raising its room-and-board rates by 2.5 percent for the 2017-18 academic year, the lowest price hike in 19 years.
The MSU Board of Trustees authorized the rate adjustment at its April 13 meeting.
With the rate change in place, the residence hall double room rate for undergraduate students will increase from $4,020 to $4,120 per year. The price of rent at the university apartments, Spartan Village and University Village, will increase to $733 per month.
The total cost of residence hall housing, with dining options included, will increase to $9,976.
The board also authorized the demolition of the west wing of the Eppley Building in the Eli Broad College of Business. It will be replaced with a 100,000-square-foot, three-story pavilion, for an estimated cost of $62 million.
Renovations will also be made to make several campus buildings more energy efficient. Plans include replacing windows, roofs and the resurfacing of Trowbridge Road.
