WKAR, the NPR affiliate for Michigan State University and the mid-Michigan region, is seeking an experienced, charismatic, and dedicated local anchor and producer for ‘Weekend Edition’. Weekend responsibilities include writing and anchoring two formal newscasts, four casual news updates, and recording evening and overnight weather forecasts. When you’re not hosting Weekend Edition, you’ll be writing and reporting news content, cultivating and pitching story ideas during daily news meetings, and engaging our audience and community via social media. This person will report to the managing editor, and will work closely with the radio station manager, program director, other on-air hosts, reporters, and student interns. This is a full-time position working weekends and three weekdays.

Required Qualifications:

  • A bachelor's degree in broadcasting communication, journalism, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated ability to produce high quality content and programming
  • A minimum of one year of on-air experience
  • Experience with automation systems and audio editing
  • Ability to work on multiple tasks, on deadline, and under pressure
  • Comfortable working live or recorded
  • Self-motivated with experience turning ideas into action
  • Prior on-air experience in public and/or commercial broadcasting
  • Work experience that demonstrates professionalism, curiosity, and diverse interests
