Somewhere in our state is a magnificent pine that will stand in full holiday glory later this year in front of the Michigan Capitol building in Lansing. We talk with Steve Doty of the Michigan Department of Technology, Management and Budget, the agency leading the search for Michigan’s official Christmas tree.

Today is the first day of summer, so of course, the big thing on everyone’s mind right now is Christmas!

You might think it’s a little early for that, but Michigan is already searching for the perfect pine.

We talk with Steve Doty, a facilities supervisor with the Michigan Department of Technology, Management and Budget. He’s the guy leading the public statewide search for Michigan’s official Christmas Tree that will displayed this winter on the Capitol grounds in Lansing.

Kevin Lavery served as a general assignment reporter and occasional local host for Morning Edition and All Things Considered before retiring in 2023.
