National protest calls for women to take day off

A national protest is calling for women to take the day off of work and avoid shopping today.

Women’s March the same group that organized January’s March on Washington planned “A Day Without a Woman” to coincide with International Women’s Day.

Rallies are expected around the country.

In Michigan, two main rallies are planned to take place at the Capitol and in Ann Arbor.

On the group’s website, they state that their goal "is to highlight the economic power and significance that women have in the US and global economies, while calling attention to the economic injustices women and gender nonconforming people continue to face.”

The group is also urging women to wear the color red and visit only women and minority owned businesses if any shopping is necessary.
