Suspect Accused Of Killing MSU Student Back In Michigan

A man accused of killing a Michigan State University student is back in Michigan.

On October 12,  22-year-old Isai Berrones was shot inside his unit at 25 East Apartments on Chandler

Road.  Berrones later died from the shooting.

East Lansing Deputy police chief Steve Gonzalez said officers found the suspected shooter Steven Washington near Columbus, Ohio a few days later.

“Our detective bureau brought him back to Michigan," said Gonzalez. "He is currently on lodged in the [Ingham] county jail on a no bond, bond.” 

Police have not released a possible motive.

Gonzalez said Washington faces a murder and other charges. 

They are also investigating the possible involvement of other people in the case.

The victim, Isai Berrones, was from South Texas.

He was a senior student in MSU’s program for students from migrant and seasonal farmworker families. A GoFundMe page said Berrones leaves behind his parents, a brother and two sisters. He was expected to graduate from MSU in May.
