Former President Bill Clinton is encouraging Michigan voters to approve Proposal Three on the November ballot.
Under the proposed constitutional amendment, Michigan utilities would have to generate a quarter of their energy using renewable sources by 20
25.
Clinton says it’s “Michigan’s best opportunity this year to jumpstart the state’s economy.”
Mark Fisk is with the group backing Proposal Three. He says the former president’s endorsement is a major boost for the initiative.
“The fact that he’s urging folks to vote ‘yes’ on Proposal 3 – which is going to increase our use of renewable energy like wind and solar – is such an exciting development in our campaign,” he says.
Clinton says the requirements would create 94,000 Michigan jobs.
Opponents dispute that estimate. They say the proposal would lead to higher utility bills and doesn’t belong in the state’s constitution.
