State Housing agency Director To Resign After Charging Lavish Travel Expenses

The head of the Michigan State Housing Development Authority is stepping down.

As The Michigan Public Radio Network’s Jake Neher reports, Scott Woosley was accused this week of wasting public funds on lavish travel expenses.

The Michigan Democratic Party released documents this week that show Woosley asked to be reimbursed for over $200,000 since 2012. The expenses include pricey meals and hotel rooms that cost between $400 and $500 a night.

In a statement, Woosley said he didn’t want news reports on the situation to be a distraction to the work the housing authority is doing.

A day earlier, he asked the state Department of Treasury to review his expenses. He offered to write a personal check for any that were found to be inappropriate.

Jake Neher is a reporter for the Michigan Public Radio Network. He covers the State Legislature and other political events in Lansing.
