Early this morning, Michigan’s 2014 legislative session concluded dramatically. The state legislature will be sending a proposal to Governor Rick Snyder for a one-cent increase in the Michigan sales tax. The additional revenue would generate about $1.2-billion a year for road and bridge repair. Michigan voters will decide whether to implement the measure, possibly next May.But various concessions became a part of the proposal. The measure will include about $300-million for Michigan schools. It also would restore the state’s Earned Income Tax Credit.
Another involves stripping Michigan counties of the authority to issue gun permits. Yet another helps schools address cyber-bullying.
