America is debating the pros and cons of the Iran nuclear deal. Some influential legislators, including Michigan Senator Gary Peters, are still making up their minds. They might be swayed by retired Israeli general UziEilam, who is in Detroit to explain why he supports the controversial accord.
Arguably the most pressing issue currently before the U.S. Senate and House is whether to support the Iran nuclear accord. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has been a vocal opponent of the accord.
Retired Brigadier General Uzi Eilam is in a unique position to assess the proposed deal, and he supports it. Eilam’s military career began as a paratrooper in the Israel Defense Force in the 1950’s. He spent years in military research and development at IDF headquarters.
After his retirement from the IDF, General Eilam served as director general of the Israeli Atomic Energy Commission and as chief scientist and Director of Research and Development in Israel’s Ministry of Defense.
Today, he is a Senior Research Fellow at the Institute for National Security Studies in Tel Aviv. Current State talks to General Eilam about his support for the deal and his trip to Michigan.
