Michigan Republican governor candidate Bill Schuette has selected former state Rep. Lisa Posthumus Lyons as his running mate.

Lyons joined the current state attorney general Wednesday morning at a campaign event in Grand Rapids.

That's near her home in the Kent County community of Alto and where she works as county clerk.

She served in the state Legislature from 2011-16. She's the daughter of Dick Posthumus, Gov. Rick Snyder's chief of staff and lieutenant governor for former Gov. John Engler.

Schuette will face Democrat Gretchen Whitmer, a former legislative leader, in the November election.

She hasn't named her running mate.

Snyder cannot run again because of term limits.

Lyons was expected to join Schuette at similar events later in the day in Lansing and the Detroit suburb of Bloomfield Hills.
