Republicans Gather For “Squash Amash” Rally In Grand Rapids

Supporters of President Donald Trump gathered Friday outside the Grand Rapids building that houses U-S Congressman Justin Amash’s office. Capital correspondent Cheyna Roth reports dozens of people lined the sidewalk for what they called a “Squash Amash” rally.

Congressman Amash recently called for Congress to start impeachment proceedings against President Trump. Since then, Republicans who support Trump have said that the 5th term lawmaker needs to go.

Meshawn Maddock is the co-founder of the Michigan Trump Republicans. She helped organize the event.

“You know what Justin Amash is a Michigan problem, he’s not just a third Congressional district problem.” Said Maddock.

A handful of people came to the event to support Amash. They say Amash follows his principles and is a strong conservative lawmaker.

Before becoming the newest Capitol reporter for Michigan Public Radio Network, Cheyna Roth was an attorney. She spent her days fighting it out in court as an assistant prosecuting attorney for Ionia County.
