The Michigan Department of Civil Rights on Monday released guidance reminding voters they can file a complaint over voter intimidation at the polls.
The department reminded voters that intimidation, harassment, or discrimination at polls is illegal.
James White is the Executive Director for the Michigan Department of Civil Rights.
“We just want to make sure that people are aware of their rights,” he said. “If they do encounter any type of harassment they have options available to them so they can still vote.”
White said voters with disabilities should also be aware that they have a right to accessible voting.
“We want to make sure that individuals with disabilities have that same right to vote and any issues that they have are addressed.”
White said the first thing to do if you experience harassment at the polls is to alert a poll worker. If that doesn’t resolve the problem he said voters should call the office of the attorney general at 1-866-OUR-VOTE.
