Editor's Note: Since this story was originally published on March 6, officials have verified that this and one additional suspected case of novel coronavirus (COVID-19) have both tested negative.
Ingham County officials say they're monitoring one potential case of coronavirus.
Ingham Health Officer Linda Vail says the county is currently testing one person who recently returned from a travel impacted area.
As of March 6, there were still no confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Michigan.
Vail says health care providers are ready with a coordinated response if the outbreak arrives here.
She’s urging people to do their part by washing their hands with soap and water thoroughly and often.
“This is not a one-way street; we can push this virus back,” Vail says. “Our action now – and importantly, your actions now – will determine the course of an outbreak in our community should that happen.”
Vail says it’s highly likely the coronavirus will spread to Michigan. She stresses it’s important to prepare and not panic.
