On April 16th , 2007, Colin Goddard was in his French class in Norris Hall on the Virginia Tech University campus. That day, a lone gunman barricaded the hall’s doors and shot and killed 32 people and wounded 17 more, including Colin, who was shot four times. It is still the largest mass shooting in U.S. history.
Goddard is now the assistant director of federal legislation at the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence in Washington D.C. and a leading advocate for universal background checks on gun purchasers. He's in Lansing for a screening of a documentary about his experience called "Living for 32.” The screening is tonight at the Unitarian Universalist Church at 7p.m., and will be following by an open discussion with Goddard and State Representative Jim Townsend, who is leading the legislative effort here to expand background checks. They both join Current State to discuss their effort to broaden background checks for gun purchases in Michigan.
