SIDEBAR: A look at Georgia's part-time legislature

If governing nearly 10-million people with a legislature that meets for just two months sounds impossible, take a trip down Interstate 75 and spend some time in the Peach State.

Georgia is the eighth most populous state in the U.S., just slightly ahead of Michigan, at number nine. Its state assembly also convenes in January but it will wrap up business by early April.  Lawmakers there meet for just 40 days, though not necessarily consecutively.

Paul Yates, a contributing reporter for Georgia Public Broadcasting, says that term limits do not apply to lawmakers in Georgia like they would to lawmakers in Michigan.
