Amateur rocketeers launching port-a-potty

Michigan is not among the first states that come to mind when you mention the aerospace industry. An amateur rocket launch scheduled for Saturday in southwest Michigan is unlikely to change that. On Saturday afternoon, members of a Michiana Rocketry Club plan to blast a port-a-potty into space near the community of Three Oaks, near the Indiana state line.Current State talks with Larry Kingman, a member of the club and one of a group of rocket enthusiasts who’ve dubbed themselves the Throne Thrusters. This evening, they plan to assess the weather conditions for their Saturday launch. They’ll announce their plan on their Facebook page.

UPDATE (1 p.m. 11-20):  Current State has since learned the planned launch has been postponed until December 6 and 7.
