Our Live Music Friday guest today is trumpeter Brian Lynch. He’s spending the week at MSU as part of the MSU Federal Credit Union Jazz Artist in Residence program, and they’re keeping him busy with a schedule that includes working with students and performing around Michigan. Lynch has played with Phil Woods, Art Blakey and the Jazz Messengers, and the Horace Silver Quintet, among others. His album “The Brian Lynch/Eddie Palmieri Recording Project: Simpatico” earned the Grammy Award for Best Latin Jazz Album of the year for 2006.

Tonight, Lynch will perform with the MSU Jazz Orchestras at MSU’s Fairchild Theatre, starting at 8 p.m.

Brian Lynch is joined by jazz faculty members Rodney Whitaker, Etienne Charles, Randy Gelispie and MSU music student Gerand McDowell live in WKAR's Studio S.

Scott Pohl has maintained an on-call schedule reporting for WKAR following his retirement after 36 years on the air at the station.
