Progress for "Under The Bridge" Project

Light installation and painting along Michigan Avenue underneath US 127 is progressing.

Colorful changes are taking place along Michigan Avenue beneath the US 127 overpass on the Lansing/East Lansing border.

In late May, Crews with Lansing Board of Water and Light installed huge lights that show alternating colors from the underpass.

It's all part of the Michigan Avenue Under the Bridge project.

Murals on four slanted concrete walls are also taking shape. Artist Brian Whitfield told WKAR in April that each mural will depict a different facet of mid-Michigan life.

"[The murals will display] how we work in this community, how we play in this community, how we discover." said Whitfield. "[And] how we create with all the music and the arts."

Enhanced landscaping with trees, shrubs and grasses are also part of the project that may be completed by August.

WKAR has closed the gap left by the loss of federal funding. Because of you, trusted journalism, inspiring stories, and classical music remain freely available to everyone in mid-Michigan.
