Notes from Susi

Hello Friends,

I’m pleased and proud to share the news that Susi Elkins, WKAR Public Media general manager and my colleague and friend, has been elected to serve as Professional Vice Chair on the board of directors at American Public Television Stations.
The mission of APTS is to ensure a strong and financially sound national public television system and help member stations provide essential public services in education, public safety, and civic leadership for their communities.

It is no surprise to me that in two short years on the APTS board, Susi has been able to show leadership in every board interaction, inspiring her peers to elect her to this formalized leadership role. Traditionally, a Professional Vice Chair serves as the common denominator for a board. Having an acute awareness of the board’s goals, the function of each member’s position, and the ultimate impact that the board will have falls on the shoulders of the Professional Board Chair.

For me, the APTS Board is brilliant in recognizing the force that is Susi—something that our community has fortunately known for a quarter of a century. Susi understands the power of public media and that, when done right, our content and connection with our community can inspire personal growth, exploration of our world, and positive change amongst our audience.

I am pleased that Susi will be able to apply her sensibility and strength to this leadership role for APTS. As a nonprofit dedicated to supporting 356 member stations across America, APTS is keenly positioned to amplify all that Susi is doing locally to a national platform.

Congratulations Susi!

Regards,

Melanie McGuire
