Neighbors in Action: City Rescue Mission | WKAR

http://guyonthecorner.org/

It’s Wednesday and time for our Neighbors in Action segment, where we feature people and organizations working to make our community a better place. Today we feature the City Rescue Mission, the largest homeless shelter in the mid-Michigan area. It offers beds to around 160 people every night. But shelter administrators says that they are at capacity, especially when it comes to their men’s shelter. They’ve been working for the past several years on an expansion of that program. Over the next month, City Rescue Mission plans to add around 40 additional beds for homeless men.The expansion is about more than giving someone a place to sleep at night, though. City Rescue is also launching new programs to help men transition from the shelter to a more permanent residence.

Current State talks with City Rescue Mission executive director Mark Criss and men’s ministry Director Randy Barton.

We could always use more nominations and we know there are people and organizations out there that are doing excellent work, but we just don’t know about them. Please help us out and tweet us suggestions at  @KARCurrentState or send us an email to Currentstate@wkar.org. Put “Neighbors in Action” in the subject line and tell us why you think they should be featured for the great work they do.

Scott Pohl has maintained an on-call schedule reporting for WKAR following his retirement after 36 years on the air at the station.
