Lansing Riverfront Project Named Rotary Park

The city of Lansing is taking a step forward in revitalizing their downtown riverfront.

On Tuesday, Mayor Andy Schor gathered the community for an executive order to rename Lansing's Riverfront Improvement Project to "Rotary Park."

The million dollar revitalization project was named after the Rotary Club of Lansing Foundation for their large gift of $400,000.

The park is sponsored by more than 10 partners including the Rotary Club of Lansing Foundation.

Schor said the improvement project was inspired by cities like Detroit, where they also take pride in recreational spaces.

"This is going to grow the city. One of the things that we talked about when we came in was growing this city and Riverfront development is a major part of that growth," said Schor.

The park will run from the Lansing Center to the Shiawassee Street Bridge.

Construction of Rotary Park will include an outdoor fireplace, a patio and beach.
