MSU tennis players balance sports and med school dreams

Zachary Barnes

EAST LANSING, Mich. - College sports is big business, but not all athletes are using their time in school as a stepping stone to a professional career.

In smaller sports, such as tennis, going pro is a slight option. The players focus on their studies and career goals, doing the routine student activities such as applying for internships and all-nighters at the library.

For Michael Dube and Erin Faulkner, they are balancing being varsity tennis players and human biology students. Their focus is to someday attend medical school, meaning it can be even more challenging to balance the daily practices, constant travel and trainer visits on the side with their academics.

But they have found being a student-athlete has actually helped them learn to manage their time better.

Still...how they do it all? They don’t even know.
