The Ultimate MSU Cribs Tour: The Michigan State Football Team Apparel And Shoe Closet
OK, it’s a little bigger than your average closet, because everything is big – the players, the shoes, the array of apparel, and the discipline to keep it all perfectly organized.
EAST LANSING, Mich. – Imagine what it takes to gear and clothe the Michigan State football team. There are 120 players, all with multiple jerseys, helmets, pants, shirts, socks, unmentionables and cleats for practices, games and bowl appearances. It’s a lot of hangers, cubbies, storage and organization to keep the team’s gear operation running smoothly.
One of the busiest rooms in the Duffy Daugherty football building is the equipment room. The equipment room is managed by Dylan Marinez, in his 14th season at Michigan State as a football equipment manager, and his fourth as head equipment manager.
WKAR Current Sports beat reporter Rachel Hyams provides a rare, behind-the-scenes look into the warehouse-sized walk-in closet for MSU football.
THE INSIDE JOB:
Marinez has been involved with the MSU equipment room for 14 seasons. Throughout the years, he has developed life long memories and bonds with players, coaches, and other staff.
HOW MANY SHOES?
Imagine a closet holding 700 pairs of shoes? There isn’t a shoe out of place for the Michigan State equipment team.
COACHING GEAR/ TEAM GEAR:
The expression, “I have so much clothing, but I do not know what to wear”, can apply very well here.
Take a look inside the second rolling cabinets located inside the equipment room… how many extra jerseys can you count?
Have you ever been curious as to where all the extra clothing, helmets, or cleats go?
Would you expect the busiest place in the equipment room to be this spot.
