Michigan is blessed with a lot of water, but how exactly do we use all of it? We talk with MLive reporter Garret Ellison about his recent deep dive into Michigan water use data.

Every Tuesday, Current State focuses on Michigan’s environment. Today, we talk about how the state uses water. It’s been a hot topic in Michigan for many years, and not just water from the Great Lakes.

The state also relies on groundwater and inland surface water for drinking, manufacturing, irrigation and other activities.

Recently, MLive reporter Garret Ellison took a close look at statistics about Michigan water use from 2005 through 2014. The result was his story “5 Factors Driving Michigan Water Use.”

We talk with Garret Ellison about the story.

Current State discusses Michigan’s environment every Tuesday. Our segments, and others about the Great Lakes environment, can be found at GreatLakesEcho.org and at wkar.org.
