Changes Proposed In Inventory Of Michigan Forest Roads

WKAR File Photo

The Michigan Department of Natural Resources is taking public comments on proposed changes in its inventory of forest roads.

The plan adds 26 miles of roads in northern Lower Peninsula, bringing the total to nearly 7,600 miles.

It also adds 31.5 miles to the number that are open for off-road vehicle use, bringing that total to 6,308 miles.

Officials say the changes result from on-the-ground reviews by DNR staffers and a review of public comments submitted earlier.

Public input on the newly proposed revisions will be accepted by email at dnr-roadinventoryproject@michigan.gov and online until Dec. 7.

Comments also can be made at the January and February meetings of the Michigan Natural Resources Commission. The DNR director is expected to decide in February whether to approve the plan.
