U-M researcher looks to Brazil for breast milk bank ideas

You’ve heard of blood banks, tissue banks and organ donation, But are you aware of breast milk banks? Likely not, because they are not widespread in the U.S.Current State’s Melissa Benmark speaks with a researcher at the University of Michigan who is looking to South America to see what can be learned about breast milk banks.

Dr. Lisa Hammer recently led a group of health professionals to Brazil, where there is an extensive system of milk banks that distribute donated milk to newborns.
