A Michigan couple seeks to raise awareness of teen mental illness with their documentary about Daniel Olson, an Ishpeming teen who committed suicide. We speak with filmmaker Kammi Young-Berens about the process of making the documentary and what she hopes it will do for teens struggling with depression.

In 2012, the community of Ishpeming, Michigan was rocked by the suicide of  Daniel Olson, the quarterback of the high school football team. Olson suffered from depression and anxiety.

The Husband and wife filmmaking team Mike and Kammi Berens hopes to turn the tragedy into an opportunity to raise awareness about teen mental illness. They’re making a documentary about Daniel Olson and the Ishpeming football team called, “Do it for Daniel.”

Current State talks with Kammi Berens about the documentary.
